Artist's Selected Frame

When I (as the originator of the artwork) take the care to choose what I consider to be the most beautiful mat color and perfect custom-made frame, I am especially eager to share this opportunity with prospective Collectors.

The Artist's Choice is made with great attention to detail. What are some of the elements-to-consider behind a really excellent choice of frame?

• What is the color-scape of the work: Pastels? Hot tones? Cool palette?
• What are the characteristic curves, lines or angles in the artwork?
• Are there decorative elements such as floral patterns or folds of cloth?
• How much space or open background exists in the painting compared to the forms, shapes or objects depicted and where does the eye tend to go?
• How much shadow or light exists in the overall picture?
• What is the emotional "mood" of the work?
• Does the artwork suggest an historic period or stylistic era?
• Will the frame dominate the art inside it? (It should not do that... ever.)
• What will protect the work best? Is it left without glass? Is plexiglass best?
• What would the Artist choose if he or she could guide you, the Owner?

Many of these questions can be very subtle and take a bit of a discerning "artist's eye" to notice. That's where I come in. When I go to a professional framer to select the most evocative and coordinated (but not obtrusive) frame and mat, it is something that is Extra Special. Undeniably, each owner of an artwork may have his or her own taste, wall color and furnishing-decor to take into account, and thus may prefer to receive my art in an unframed manner so as to select their own frame. However, I have actually taken that (personal taste) into account in the kinds of Frames and Mats I have chosen. Let me explain.

How have I done that? By choosing frames and mat colors that I believe will go well in just about any decor and on any wall — not bland ones in the least, but ones that help to bring out the essence of the painting inside.
